Lidded Walnut Vessel

285.00

6 1/2 x 9, Walnut/Black Palm. Here we have a perfect example of why not to focus on acquiring the perfect wood blank for turning, while disregarding the ones with various "imperfections". I found the wood for this vessel laying around being used as a door stop! The sapwood of the Walnut is spalted; something I hadn't seen before in Walnut. The so called "imperfections" actually increases the attractiveness of the piece and I chose to highlight them with coffee grounds and epoxy instead of trying to down play them. The finial is made from Black Palm. Makes a splendid display item, but can also be used as a burial urn with a capacity of 135 cubic inches.
